B.A. Blacktop Ltd. (part of the Eurovia BC Group of Companies) is currently seeking a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician to fill a role in a very busy shop at our Port Kells, Surrey Location.

Job Purpose 

The Heavy Duty Equipment Technician is responsible for providing repairs and preventive maintenance on road construction equipment. This position will employ logic and deductive reasoning in diagnosing and troubleshooting.

 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Performing assemblies, preventative maintenance, repairs, and complete overhauls on heavy equipment
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized or other testing equipment to determine the extent of repair required
  • Make recommendations regarding the extent of repairs and suggest methods of improvement
  • Think logically and keep up with changes in technology
  • Interpret work orders and technical manuals
  • Understand BA Blacktop safety policy and perform tasks in a safe manner
  • Propose modifications on the existing asset that can extend or improve their operation
  • Document the repair or the major preventive maintenance operation in the “out inspection form” and/or the timesheet with the actions taken, parts ordered, and time taken
  • Clearly inform the shop foreman about the progress of the repairs
  • Inspect the shop equipment
  • Motivated and able to work in a challenging environment with minimal supervision
  • Work remotely in adverse weather conditions. Job tasks may be physically demanding lifting up to 50 lbs

Qualifications (Education, Training or Experience)

 

Essential Qualifications

  • Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician certification
  • Red Seal certificate is an asset
  • 3+ years in a similar field in the repair or maintenance of heavy equipment
  • Valid driving license
  • Strong written and verbal communication

Additional Comments on the Role/Company

  • The opportunity to maintain and repair various brands and types of equipment will be provided by working at the shop. Due to our biannual investment program, the fleet is continuously updated, therefore they will also work on a new machine equipped with the latest technologies.
  • Going on Jobsites for repair will let you appreciate being part of a team dedicated to the building of the BC infrastructures.
  • It will be expected that you receive calls on the weekends and at night.
  • You will be given a service truck to perform the tasks.

BA Blacktop is currently seeking an experienced individual to join our Shop & Equipment team as an Equipment Coordinator. 

This intermediate-level role will include coordination of tasks in our shop & equipment department.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works in relation with the Equipment Manager, the Shop Foreman, and the Equipment Clerk to coordinate the following:
  1. VEHICLES (SUVs, Light and medium pick up trucks, utility trucks):
  • Coordinating with external shops vehicles maintenance
  • Coordinating with the shop foreman for inhouse resources for vehicles maintenance
  • Coordination with the equipment clerk for ICBC claims
  • Invoices approval for maintenance requests
  • Responsible for keeping track of vehicle services or repairs in our maintenance program
  • Proposes optimizations based on costs analysis of the repairs and services
  • Operates a wide variety of vehicles from and to the repair places or between offices locations
  • Preparing fleet renewal plan with the equipment manager
  • Preparing Lease/Order requests for vehicles

       2. PARTS

  • Responsible for the annual purchase of service parts and fluids
  • Responsible for ordering parts for the shop (heavy duty equipment) and fleet

JOB PURPOSE

The Project Superintendent is responsible for planning, scheduling, and executing construction operations. They assure projects are constructed in accordance with company safety programs, contract documents, budget, customer’s construction schedule needs, and conform to the plans and specifications.

 

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Site Safety Standards

  • Have a strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC Regulations
  • Prepare and send Notice of Project
  • Participate actively in Pre-Job Hazard Assessment and First Aid Assessment in collaboration with the Safety Department
  • Participate in the development of Safety procedures for specific job tasks in collaboration with the Safety Department
  • Identify and communicate potential hazards with foremen and crews
  • Ensure that safety procedures in accordance with the Prime Contractor, BA OH&S manual, and Work Safe are being followed
  • Ensure that all work is carried out in a safe manner while considering risks and potential liabilities
  • Ensure all workers and subcontractors participate in project orientation prior to starting work on a specific project
  • Ensure work sites are always left clean and free from any hazards
  • Investigate actively and in detail all incidents/accidents/near misses

 Leadership and Supervision

  • Review contract documents, the scope of work, drawings, and specifications prior to starting a new job site
  • Review project bid documents and budget in detail with the estimator and/or project manager. Participate in job cost codes set-up
  • For medium to large projects, participate actively in pre-construction transition meetings
  • Prepare and give all necessary information to foremen (Work Order, Drawings, Cost codes, schedule…).
  • Schedule foreman, crew members, operators, and equipment requirements with General Superintendent or Field Operations Manager
  • Schedule Paving, Milling, and Concrete crews with Paving, Milling, and Concrete Superintendents as early as possible
  • Update the Outlook paving schedule as required, including the type of mix, quantities, timeline, and production rates
  • Schedule, coordinate and negotiate with subcontractors and material suppliers
  • Ensure all necessary permits are obtained
  • Direct and coordinate construction operations, construction methods and techniques, and overall planning of assigned projects
  • Prepare project schedule. Maintain 3 weekly look-ahead schedule
  • Maintain regular, clear, and open communication lines with customers. Document communications through meeting minutes, emails, notes in a diary…
  • Participate in weekly/regular job site meetings
  • Review, verify and correct daily/weekly and monthly job costs in Kheops
  • Review cost code budgets and job budgets on a regular basis. Take corrective actions accordingly. Be proactive and communicate results regularly with the Project Manager, Estimators, General Superintendent and/or Field Operations Manager
  • Ensure that Extra Works, Change Orders, and Force Account Works are discussed early with customers and documented prior to performing the work
  • Prepare monthly project billing in collaboration with Estimators, Project Manager and/or Estimator. Verify the accuracy of billing prior to submittal
  • Submit all monthly invoices prior to the 15th of the following month or earlier.
  • Review, correct, and approve suppliers’ and subcontractors’ invoices
  • Participate in the Field Operations meeting

 Planning and Coordinating

  • Communicate and discuss the schedule with foremen and sub-contractors regularly
  • Lead/organize/give specific instructions to the site foremen on a daily/weekly basis
  • Organize what is needed for the work site, such as trucks, equipment, materials, and sub-contractors (flaggers, surveyors, utility subcontractors, etc.) in close collaboration with the site foreman
  • Supervise all aspects of the daily and weekly operations
  • Monitor work progress and ensure scheduled deadlines are met

Quality of Work

  • Ensure that the quality control plan is followed
  • Ensure that Quality Control Testing is scheduled as per the project requirements
  • Ensure/Verify quality requirements are met
  • Address/Correct all deficiencies as early as possible
  • Report or ensure that all deficiencies are reported through the NCR process

Training and Development

  • Lead, monitor, train and develop site foreman and crew members
  • Ensure workers have received proper training prior to completing specific tasks (fall protection, Confine Space, Rigging, Traffic Control, …)

Equipment Management

  • Schedule equipment requirements with the Operations Manager
  • Verify equipment operators perform daily maintenance, fueling, greasing, fluid level checks, and overall condition checks of equipment
  • Verify operators complete detailed DFERS on a daily basis/Verify vehicle drivers complete detailed Pre-trips on a daily basis
  • Communicate equipment issues and breakdowns with the equipment department

Reporting and Record Keeping

  • Collect, review, and correct Daily Quantity Reports and Extra Work Orders from foremen on a daily basis
  • Review foreman paperwork and papyrus timesheets on a daily basis. Integrate reports in papyrus – 48 hours window
  • Review and sign foremen’s daily work plans and monthly safety inspections
  • Keep daily notes of work site activities, conversations, issues, and specific instructions in a diary

BA Blacktop Group of Companies is currently seeking a team-oriented, self-motivated, and dedicated individual to join our North Vancouver Plant as a Laboratory Technician. 

The Laboratory Technician will assist with the internal quality control program at the materials testing laboratory located at North Vancouver Plant.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Conduct sieve analysis, moisture content and asphalt cement content tests
  • Perform Marshall test and Superpave test, calculate the test data and report.
  • Assist in the stockpile management at plant and the test data management on the SharePoint
  • Assist with the mix design development
  • Assist with the Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories (CCIL) asphalt lab certification program
  • Adherence to WorkSafeBC Regulations and BA health and safety policy in the lab, office, and worksite

 

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working as a material testing technician in the asphalt and soils industry
  • Knowledge of asphalt technology and production of asphalt mix including Superpave and Marshall
