To promote a safe work environment so that everyone goes home injury-free,  we have implemented a Stretch ‘n Flex program at the beginning of each shift, to help crews get physically prepared for work. To date, the divisions that have implemented the program on a consistent daily basis have been free from musculoskeletal injuries (strains and sprains). Workers have also reported that they feel better and that their bodies were more prepared for the day. Some of the benefits of completing the pre-shift stretch include the prevention of serious musculoskeletal injuries, increased blood/nutrient supply to the muscles, increased joint movability and improved balance and muscle coordination.
