The goal of the New Worker program is to make new workers more readily identifiable on the work site, to ensure adequate training is completed, to prevent injury during their initial months of service, and to ensure that each new worker has a full understanding of BA Blacktop’s safety program.
New workers wear distinctive green hard-hats for the first three months of employment, after which they are given a yellow hard-hat upon successful completion of a written safety knowledge test.
Over a period of 18 months, workers receive wedge-shaped stickers on completion of training phases. A total of three stickers are awarded to the employee during the program, forming a complete circle. Completion of the full circle indicates that the employee has demonstrated a strong commitment to personal safety and the safety of fellow employees, and has graduated through the New Worker program, or otherwise has extensive industry experience.
