1956

BA Blacktop Ltd. was incorporated on April  18, 1956, under British Columbia Law and became a Limited Company.

1958

Imperial Paving Limited is founded by Gerald R. Smith and incorporated  under British Columbia Law on January 10, 1958.

1977

BA Blacktop Ltd. has always been a leader in the Vancouver road construction industry. In 1977 BA Blacktop purchased the first Boeing Drum Mix Plant in Vancouver and the first Milling Machine in all of Western Canada.

1979

In 1979, BA Blacktop started expanding operations by acquiring a division of Coast Paving, located on the Sunshine Coast.

1991

BA Blacktop further expanded into the Fraser Valley by acquiring Martens Asphalt Ltd. Since then, Martens Asphalt has become one of the most successful road building contractors in the Eastern Fraser Valley.

1996

BA Blacktop's first Design-Build venture was the South Sumas Road Project in Chilliwack, BC. Since then, BA has successfully been shortlisted for all major Design-Build projects in British Columbia.

1997

BA Blacktop continued expanding on the Sunshine Coast by purchasing another division of Coast Paving, this time in Powell River. As a result of this acquisition, BA Blacktop became the only asphalt producer on the Sunshine Coast.

1998

BA Blacktop was awarded our first Design-Build-Finance Project located at Highway 99 and 32nd Avenue in Surrey, BC. Our innovative design was the first single point interchange in the Province of British Columbia.

2003

We adopted the ISO 9001:2000 quality management system model as the foundation for our quality assurance program and received ISO Certification.

Happy Birthday! BA Blacktop celebrates its 50th year helping people get where they need to go.

BA Blacktop acquired 80% ownership of Coquitlam Ridge Constructors, a firm that has successfully completed over 100 bridge and bridge related projects throughout Southern British Columbia.

2009

BA Blacktop re-certified in 2009 under the new ISO 9001:2008 process.  Since becoming ISO Certified in 2003, BA Blacktop has not received any major non-conformances.

BA Blacktop continues to be a leader in the Vancouver road construction industry. Our liquid asphalt storage facility, completed in 2009 and accessible by both land and water, has a storage capacity of 24,000 tonnes of liquid asphalt.

BA Blacktop Ltd. was acquired by Eurovia S.A., an international leader in construction of infrastructure for highways, airports, rail transport and urban development. Our relationship as partners within the Eurovia family facilitates the sharing of information, expertise and resources on a wide range of construction related issues.

2012

BA Blacktop is awarded its largest Design-Build assignment to date- The Roberts Bank Rail Corridor Combo Project. This $88M project includes three overpasses and associated approach roads in Surrey and Langley, BC.

2014

BA Blacktop continues to build quality infrastructure, with four Design-Build projects completed during the year.  We also completed paving services for the Port Mann Highway 1 Improvement Project, one of the largest infrastructure projects  in British Columbia.

Imperial Paving is purchased by Eurovia Canada, and becomes part of a world-wide family of roadbuilding experts.

Imperial Paving merges into BA Blacktop Ltd as of January 1, 2016.  Our combined service offering and capacity makes us the largest provider of paving services in BC.

 

April 18, 2016, BA Blacktop celebrates 60 years of growth in the road construction industry!

Martens Asphalt is renamed Eurovia British Columbia Inc  to reflect its association with the Eurovia family of companies internationally.
